On-call forecasters: a 24-hour commitment

Meteorological and hydrological forecasters are constantly on the lookout, whether for weather forecasts or flood warnings.

They are subject to an on-call service, enabling them not only to monitor, but also to launch or receive alerts in real time.

This requires meticulous organization, combining rigorous planning with a state-of-the-art telephone call management system.

SPC on-call management

Flood forecasting service (SPC)

Flood forecasters are on call to anticipate and manage flood risks in situations where meteorological events could cause major flooding of rivers or streams.

On-call flood forecasters regularly exchange information by telephone with various partners during and outside hydrological crises.

Teleworking or working in a crisis room means that the service has to use a single-number solution to enable partners to reach forecasters quickly and easily, wherever they are.

Organization of on-call forecasters

Organizing the schedule of on-call forecasters often means setting up a team of several people available 24 hours a day, spread over several sites for an entire week.

So, during the week, one of the forecasters is identified as having priority and takes the first calls received. If the first forecaster on call fails to answer, the calls are then passed on to the other forecasters.

Finally, in the event of a crisis situation, a number of forecasters have to meet in a crisis room. Calls then have to be handled completely differently.
